Program

Nunavik Community Empowerment Program (NCEP) supports the creation and consolidation of spaces for collaboration and learning in Nunavik communities.

 

NCEP is an initiative created as a result of close collaborations with ESUMA, the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and the community of Kangiqsualujjuaq and as a pilot project in 2016.

 

WHAT ? To develop training and skills

NCEP values the importance of traditional and modern ways of knowing. As a group, participants will be empowered to identify common goals and needs in terms of training and elder, community member and outside expert invitation to promote the sharing of knowledge and skills.

HOW ? By collaborating

Young professionals and community organizations come together to find common ground for collaboration with the objective of fostering learning, motivation, personal and professional development as well as supporting collective leadership and community engagement. Service workers share and pool their knowledge, experiences and efforts to create activities and educational projects with and for youth.

 

Community commitments

  • Be ready and willing to start the process in your community and remain a close contributor.

  • Be willing to mobilize and involve community service workers.

  • Host facilitators.

  • Make the program the community's program!

 

Process

  1. Gather community workers around a table to embark in training and workshops.

  2. Identifying common goals and needs.

  3. Joining resources and skills to better reach your common goals.

  4. Provide culturally relevant trainings and workshops to the members to empower them individually and collectively, let them gain expertise, equip them to face professional challenges, foster employability through intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, transfer of competencies and traditional skills.

  5. With the members, design and provide creatives activities, services and programs for children, families and community members in the community focusing on the wellness for children and families, intergenerational links, education, promoting culture, empowering the community, inspire and motivate members of the community to be change makers in the community, etc.

  • How to plan efficiently

  • Risk management

  • Outreach strategies

  • How to improve intergenerational dialogue

  • Psychology of age groups
